Movie and Pizza Night

24 October 2018 - 24 october 2018 22:00

Hi everybody!

We from the ACE History committee would like to invite you all for Movie Night with pizza on campus! The featured movie is “The Mission”.

What is it about? The Mission tells the (mostly) true story set in the 18th-century. Jesuit priest Father Gabriel (Jeremy Irons) enters the Guarani lands in South America with the purpose of converting the native Indians to Christianity. He soon builds a mission, where he is joined by Rodrigo Mendoza (Robert De Niro), a reformed slave trader seeking redemption.  But their mission comes to a stop when the Portuguese government captures the land to use Native Indians as slave labour.

Why should you watch?  The movie is inconsistent with the true events because the Vatican only accepts a certain version of the truth. Hence the film presents only part version of the truth. Hear professor Maarten share his insights about the true story behind this movie and why such an issue is relevant today.

If you aren't convinced, the movie won the Cannes Film Festival 1986 and features Robert De Niro! Of course, there is free pizza too!

Overall it is going be a fun night and we certainly hope to see you then. Tickets are only €5.35

Location: T3-06

Regular price: € 5.35
