“If you take out the the fashion and the artifice, you can see the real person”
Lindbergh was born in Lissa, Germany in 1944 and spent his childhood in Duisburg. He was always interested in the arts, and in his late teens, he enrolled in the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts. He spent the following decade travelling throughout Europe and North Africa before moving to Dusseldorf in 1971 and by 1973, after assisting German photographer Hans Lux. In 1978, he moved to Paris to further his career. Lundbergh is often recognized as “one of the most influential photographers.” His photography focuses on women, however his main images are more humanist, in that they focus on the soul and the personality. What is unique is that he photographs the women bare faced, attempting to show them “in all honesty”.
He has also directed several documentaries such as: Models, The Film (1991), Inner Voices (1999), Everywhere at Once (2007), etc.
